For any customer, the frustration of buying a product only for it to fail to meet your expectations once put to use is an experience known all too well.
This was Josyline Kayiziaki’s inspiration and lightbulb moment to co-found Goldie Coatings together with her husband.
Her husband transitioned from being a paint marketer to a painter. However, he experienced several setbacks mostly stemming from clients complaining about the poor quality of paint he used.
‘‘Sometimes the paint would peel, colours would not match, paint would chalk and most of it was imported which was highly priced and would also not match weather conditions.’’
EXPOSURE FROM THE NSSFHIINNOVATOR PROGRAM
“I got to know about the #NSSFHiInnovator through a WhatsApp group. At that moment, I was about to quit,” she said.
After discovering Mkazipreneur and the support they provide, Josyline was overjoyed, as it was the opportunity she had been waiting for to grow her business.
‘‘Mkazipreneur helped me to do my course with the HiInnovator Academy, taking me through the boot camp training and learning how to pitch my business and design a pitch deck so as to win funding.’’
SEED FUNDING BENEFITS
With the seed funding, Goldie Coatings was able to purchase an automated mixer, boosting production capacity and enabling the transition from manual manufacturing.
‘‘Initially, we were producing 650 litres a day. Now we can produce 1000 litres in a single batch which takes 45 minutes, allowing us to manufacture for up to 8 hours. This increased our product capacity from 23 to 32 litres per batch, daily.’’ Josyline states.
This improved their product quality and helped them compete confidently in the market.
The seed funding allowed the company to improve its packaging and avoid mixing paint colours which would kill the quality of the final product.
Branding was also upgraded as the company started distributing its paint to hard wares and stores which made visibility essential.
‘‘I got to learn about QuickBooks as an accounting system that helps me to keep financial details. We also purchased laptops that we use to streamline operations around the business.’’ Joselyne adds.
The business has grown from receiving 3 to 4 walk-in customers to attracting 10 to 15 daily, driven by improved product quality.
The program also gave Joselyne personal exposure through learning how to build a pitch deck, interacting confidently with auditors and investors, and attending masterclasses that have helped her grow both personally and professionally.
With the support of Mkazipreneur, she has achieved strong results and gained a community that continues to help her grow her business.
